yeah, a tunnel, from my window to yours
hmm hmm hmm. this song makes my heart swoon. a local band does an amazing cover of this. i'm hoping they put up a recording of it soon, and when they do, i'm going to listen to it on repeat.
the weather in the city is insane right now. high of 29 today. i'm going on a bike adventure and may be adding some new decoration to my body if time is on my side. we'll see. wish me luck.

hawk squawk
one thing about me is that i love dreams. i love hearing about people's dreams and telling people about my own. not everyone shares this i've realised. my family kind of teases me about it because apparently i talk about my dreams a lot. i tend to remember a lot about my dreams. i'll remember tiny details and it seems i remember the entire dream start to finish. since people don't always find dreams as interesting as i do, i've taken to keeping a log of dreams (when i feel like it/find them interesting). i haven't reread any of them yet, i started keeping track on January 14th 2010. i think i'm going to go back and read them all at the end of the year.

i only remember a teeny tidbit from my dream last night. i had a mohawk (much like the one above, except a bit longer, blonde, and slightly curly...so ok..maybe nothing like this. but look at jena malone she's pretty!), and i remember thinking i looked really cool. i think i was at a house party or something like that and there was a new boy who was at this party and we were both fairly punkish and he had a bunch of tattoos. i kept brushing my fingers through my hair.

did you knoooooow...
i'm sick of dying my hair. i'm very very tempted to dye it one last time all my natural color and just go with it. only thing is i get bored fast. and i think i'm better looking blonde. and i want to try dying my hair red.
all in due time i guess.

(both by atemisia gentileschi; judith slaying holofernes, and susanna and the elders.)
for my summer course i'm taking women in art. it's actually pretty interesting so far reading up on the ladies of the renaissance right now. did you know during the renaissance a women wasn't allowed to wear underwear unless she was an actress, prostitute or a window washer? also, if you were raped, the only way to regain your purity and erase the crime was to marry your rapist. the middle ages were messed.

lonesome homesome

oh hi there.
i wish i lived within walking distance of my friends. i really want someone to come over and do a puzzle with me or bake cookies with me. but alas, everyone is about an hours bike ride away and i'm feeling way too lazy for that.
plus i work in the morning. my excuse.
i'll probably just curl back up with augusten burroughs and read about him becoming sober.
random fact/side note: the dress i'm in, i got for free from a clothing swap. if i could wear it every day i would.
also, i may be joining a rec soccer league. mmm.

quote to tote
"Our eyelashes brushed like they would weave together by themselves, turning us into one wild thing. I say, ‘I think I missed you before I met you even.’"
-francesca le block
"Goldilocks looked sadder than usual today as she broke Baby Bear's rocker. It had dawned on her that she lived in this story for keeps; there was no escape. She would never see anything except this forest cottage and the bears that always returned to it. And even the bears would remain strangers."
"I'm only the ghost of what you once desired," Tinsley sighed, "but a ghost isn't nothing."
-george toles
some quotes to feed your soul.
george toles was a film prof of mine. he's also the screenwriter for a lot of guy maddin's films. on facebook his statuses are always really interesting to read. those above are two examples.

things that go bump in the night
sometimes i forget i'm not the only one aging. certain people feel a certain age, look a certain age. my sister for instance, always has been always will be older than me. i've always pictured her to be a lot farther ahead in life and more grown up than me, but then when i think she's only 23, and that i have friends older than her, have dated people older than her, i feel that we're the same age. it's an odd seesaw. when i think back to people i haven't seen in a long time, i picture them at that exact age. if they're older than me i feel like i'm finally catching up, but then i remember they've been aging too. sometimes i forget how old i am. time seems really insignificant. this entire past school year feels like a dream. it went by so fast. age and time disorients me form time to time.
tomorrow i'm volunteering at a gallery. i just finished by 7th (or 8th or 9th) book in 20 days. i have fabric and collage materials. i have things to paint.
i was looking at an old post of mine about things i thought would make me happy in a perfect world, and i had listed things that i thought i could realistically work on and do. those things i just listed were all part of that. i'm a self-fulfilling prophecy! lol
i think sometimes people try a lot too hard. or they look too hard for certain things. i do it too. it's ok. this summer i'm going to just open up to everything. let life come at me and dish out what it wants.

rosey faced reader on a reading binge
since school finished i've been going nuts with books. here's what i remember reading since my last exam on april 20th:
-acid house - irvine welsh (i didn't really like it. it's a bunch of sort stories related mostly to drugs. by the same guy who wrote trainspotting. lots of the stories are written the way an accent sounds, which made a few of the stories pretty unreadable to me.)
- a wolf at the table - augusten burroughs (same guy who wrote running with scissors. focuses mostly on growing up with a psychopathic dad. true story.)
-dress your family in corduroy and denim - david sedaris (funny short stories about his life.)
-friends like these - danny wallace (true story about a guy who decides to track down 12 of his childhood friends and catch up. pretty funny, but not as good as his other books i've read: join me and the yes man)
-shop girl - steve martin (this book was so so bland and strangely written. the movie works a lot better than the book. it felt that the book was written more like a screenplay than a book. it was really short and lacked emotion. i would not read anything else written by steve martin because of this.)
-one flew over the cuckoo's nest - ken kesey (i'm just over half way through this right now. i really like it so far. i know i've seen the movie, but i don't remember much of it. it's really interesting the way it's written from the view of one of the mental patients. knowing jack nicholson played the role of McMurphy in the film makes it hard to visualise the physical description given of the character in the book. in the book he is a buff ginger. other than that...spot on casting.)
i'm pretty sure there's one or two books i'm missing in this but i can't for the life of me figure out what they are. my next two books lined up are dry by augusten burroughs (this will be my 6th out of his 7 books i've read. i find him really entertaining...obviously. last one of his to go is sellivision. i think dry is about him overcoming alcholism) and then i have america unchained by dave gorman (his tale of an american road trip. i've also read dave gorman's googlewhack adventure which was pretty great. laugh out loud funny at parts. a lot like danny wallace). i tried to start house of sand and fog, but i've been in a streak of reading funny books or bio's. i'm not much in the mood for a depressing book on racism. one day i'll get around to it, i've heard it's great.
i like books.
update: finished one flew over the cuckoo's nest earlier today. really good. i'd highly recommend it.
