I like nonsense. It wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living. It’s looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope, which is what I do. And that enables you to laugh at life’s realities.
— Dr. Seuss

it's kind of funny how everyone wants to hear that everything is going to be ok. even though we know it's not true. it's still comforting to hear the lie.

dear 2009,
you were interesting and brought along a lot of new experiences and interesting people. i had some amazing times and a few tear jerking moments, but those are alright too. each have their place. so i dunno, guess i'm just saying thanks for being interesting.

dear 2010,
everyone starts off with a list of things they'd like to change for the new year. my changes included to be more positive, be healthier, happier, and say yes to any new experience. so far so good. yes it's only been a week, but i'm feeling good, i'm feeling positive, i've been out practically very day/night, and i'm surrounded by great, beautiful people. i have a good feeling about this year. it'll be surprising and interesting if nothing else. i'm open to everything.
love lauren

two shots from nye by my friend fabien.
my new years was filled with hugs and affection of every kind. it was nice. in that first shot i remember pat just hugging me and telling other people to come and hug us and i think artemis was giving me a hand massage. makes me laugh because i've just collapsed into the hug. nye was silly and perfect.

oh heeeey

seriously. what a good looking guy.
another dream to pass the night

i was at some park or fair and met some people in a car in the parking lot. two guys (who in real life are pro skateboarders i've never met) and two girls (one is this random girl i've seen around town and the other was the girl who plays wayne's gf in wayne's world). they told me to meet up with them at the kings head later that night. i went off to get a tattoo. i went into a tat place and drew the guy what i wanted but he went to go redraw it but was having a lot of trouble with it. after about an hour he comes back with this drawing of some weird symbol made up of a dragon, a chain and a ring of fire. i told him it wasn't my style and went up to a different tattoo artist (the one i used in real life) and asked if he could do it and he said no. and the first tat guy was all concerned that i knew the other guys name. so i left and went to the kings head which was like a gigantic mall with 5 floors. i ran into the car people i met and they were eating cadbury cream eggs but only the insides of it so i ate the chocolate. then i went somewhere for a bit and when i came back it was just the boys left and we hung out.

random and boring dream. no epic battles or chase scenes this time sorry.

oh actually i remember another dream as well:

i was traveling somewhere with my sister and some people and we'd just gotten to a hotel. i had no idea where we were, i guessed fargo but we may have been somewhere in europe. either way we drove there and as soon as we got to the hotel i got distracted and left behind. i ran into these two girls i know and was chatting with them, and another person i knew came up but i couldn't remember one of the girl's names (thee two girls have been in a few of my dreams and in the dream i never remember one girl's name, even though i definitely know it in real life). when i left them i saw a bed in the hall so i just flaked out on there caz i was tired. then i felt someone else get on the bed and it was this guy ash (a model). we started making out and then other people got on the bed and were also making out and we felt weird so we got up and went into this office. he'd just been at a costume party and didn't have a shirt on but was wearing a pin on his chest. he took it out and i got grossed out, then i woke up.

again not very interesting, but that's ok. i like all dreams.

brighten up my life

new years resolution: wear more color!

i've pretty much always limited my clothing to black/white/grey. not on purpose, just happened. but this year, i'm making a conscious effort to bring more color into my life!

twenty ten

happy new year! so long 2009, hello 2010.

my new years eve was pretty great. of course today i feel like crap, but it was worth it. here are some pictures that sort of (but not really) sum it up.

started off with a hearty vegetarian potluck. there was SO MUCH food. to name a few of the delicsciousnesses: 3 types of pastas, vegetarian chili, dill mashed potatoes, couscous, bean salad, croissants, cornbread, cupcakes, cookies, and crepes.

we arrived at the party with full stomachs and happy hearts

got a little messy but having a great time

love

more love

the end.

i hope you all got a smooch at midnight to start the year off!
what a lovely tradition.

chop another line

a guy at work today tried to get me to discount the velvet jacket he wanted because it had lint on it. even after i removed it using a lint brush he still wanted a discount caz it was still "dirty" as he called it. it's a velvet jacket, what do you expect? also, this was the 3rd time i'd dealt with the same guy coming in for the saaaaame jacket. he still didn't buy it.

know what i'm sick of? fake laughs and fake smiles. you can always tell.

one thing that attracts me to people (for friendship and otherwise) are genuine smiles (well genuine people in general). when you're happy, you make others happy.

laughter is good for the soul they say. apparently your body can't tell your real laughs from your fake laughs, so if you're in a bad mood, start "laughing" and it should make you feel better. at least a little bit. if nothing else you'll probably smile at how silly you sound.

i need another karaoke night soon. i've realized i haven't sung my karaoke night song is too long:
