i want to see you in the morning
my weekend has been unreal. last night especially. partied from 9pm-6am. a bunch of those hours were spent exploring the wag in all of it's 12 hour art party glory. then back to my friends place where we danced, cuddled, talked, played and sang til the (not so) wee hours of the morning. easily one of the best nights i've had in months.

some locals
Poor little Djembe by Ian Johnson
ian johnson aka prairie dog town. this fella has led many memorable and fantastic sing-a-longs. and epic one occurred last night. we probably annoyed the neighbours with our hoots, stomps, claps and hollers of "penguins fly UNDERWATER!"...but really, who can keep quiet when happiness is oozing from every pore?
here's one from little house, another band ian is in:
Wolfman by LITTLE HOUSE
Galapagospel by Alanadale
consisting of josie, george, dale and thomas, alanadale is fantastic (in my humble opinion). i really love all their original songs, but they also do some amazing covers of love will tear us apart, tunnels, and most recently mia's paper planes. if you live near, make sure you get a chance to see these guys play. favorite line of the song "we showed up in style the only way a great explorer should arrive."
Dust Like Sand by The Northern Colour & Sound Orchestra
another great band by a gimli folk. so many great people from such a small population! i don't understand it, but i'm not complaining in the slightest.

i might believe in things that you don't think are real
sometimes movies and books can make me feel incredibly heartbroken.
the film that made me ache today: one week.
some songs from the soundtrack:
imaginary bars - great lake swimmers
hard road - sam roberts
calendar girl - stars
a million dollars - joel plaskett
the great escape - patrick watson
pacifist's anthem - the sun parlour players
clap clap clap
neat.
at home. sick. eating lucky charms.
saw inglorious bastards yesterday, it was alright. very quentin tarantino.
started reading on the road by jack kerouac. about a chapter or two in so can't say too much about it yet.
also started reading fragile things by neil gaimen which is a collection of poems and short stories. so far all of the ones i've read have been pretty dark. i really like his style of writing.
i also picked up white oleander from the library. i've seen the movie several times, and books are almost always better than the film, so i thought i'd give it a read.
i'm on another reading binge.
i was home sick yesterday as well and watched 28 days later again. i had forgotten how good it is. it's actually incredibly well done.

song for the broken
To be lost in the forest
To be cut adrift
You've been trying to reach me
You bought me a book
To be lost in the forest
To be cut adrift
I've been paid
I've been paid
Don't get offended
If I seem absent minded
Just keep telling me facts
And keep making me smile
Don't get offended
If I seem absent minded
I get tongue-tied
Baby, you've got to be more discerning
I've never known what's good for me
Baby, you've got to be more demanding
I will be yours
I'll pay for you anytime
You told me you wanted to eat up my sadness
Well jump on, enjoy, you can gorge away
You told me you wanted to eat up my sadness
Jump right
Baby, you've got to be more discerning
I've never known what's good for me
Baby, you've got to be more demanding
Jump left
What are you holding out for?
What's always in the way?
Why so damn absent-minded?
Why so scared of romance?
This modern love breaks me
This modern love wastes me
Do you wanna come over and kill some time?
Tell me facts, tell me facts, tell me facts
Tell me facts
Throw your arms around me
Do you wanna come over and kill some time? [x3]
Throw your arms around me.
i actually am not the biggest fan of this song, but it felt right today.
here is a bloc party song i like most days:
and then this is just a creepy video completely unrelated to the rest of the post
in the words of..
"The colors she wore went together perfectly. She looked like a rainbow in an oil puddle. She returned to the laundromat and turned the lights back on. The men were tied up and noiseless on the scabby green chairs, just as she had left them. Clothes were still circling in the dryers , in slow steamy protest. The red blossoms on their shirts needed attending to. One more load of wash and she could go."

the gardeners
oh me oh my.
the mind races doesn't it?
it can create whole other worlds for us to act out various scenes,
but in the end, the easiest (albeit the hardest) thing to do is just ask,
or pick up the phone.
i always get so nervous on the phone. i much prefer to talk to people face to face. it's less awkward and a whole lot easier to interpret what's going on when body language and facial expressions are involved.
oh boy.
in other news...
i finished year of the flood by margaret atwood. my opinion = fantastic! if you enjoyed oryx and crake, you should enjoy this. if you haven't read either, get on it. read oryx and crake first, though it is not necessary to read either for the other, but if you're planning on reading both, it may be more exciting to read oryx and crake first so you can catch all of the references in year of the flood.
i wish they made these books into films so that for all of those people who refuse to read, at least they could maybe catch a glimpse of these stories.

yowza
what a weekend. my goodness.
my body feels like a sack of wet sand.
completely worth it though.
-------
i've started reading the year of the flood by margaret atwood. so far so good i think. it's told from two different perspectives and the year that the story is taking place keeps switching as well, so i get lost at times, but i think i'm getting the hang of it.

4 things for your ears
ask - the smiths
up up up - the givers (can't find a better sound quality at the mo)
cosmic love - florence and the machine
northing but our love - dale earnhardt jr jr
do you want to hear about an amazing find i had today? i got a puzzle today for free. and i'm pretty sure all the pieces are there. and i'm pretty sure it's from italy (way back when). and i'm pretty sure its of one of my favorite paintings aka this one:
hurray!
i also picked up several art magazines and textbooks as well as a huge jar of really neat beads at the same place i got the puzzle. all for free! the gallery i volunteer with also runs a project where people can drop off anything that they feel has a second life in it somewhere (you can find anything from thread, fabric, old magazines, art supplies etc, to broken electronics, working and non-working records, and literally hundreds of other things) and other people can come in and take whatever they want FOR FREE. the best part about it is that when you leave with your stuff, you fill out a sign-up sheet thing where you determine how many cubic ft of stuff you're taking with you. this form is then sent to the government showing how much "garbage" is being saved from going to the landfill each year. the more stuff that is being saved from the landfill, the more money in grants the place gets, and therefore the more hours they are available to be open and accept/give out art supplies! brilliant.
also, i dyed my hair today. it didn't turn out how i was expecting, but i think i'm starting to like it. it's a big change. i am no longer a bleach blonde. i'm somewhere between dirty blonde and light brown, more brown though than blonde i'd say. my heart freaked when i saw it (and not in a good way), but like i said...i think i'm getting used to it. it's fun to try something new.
